Tamworth resident, Margaret Loftus, celebrated her 100<\/span>th<\/span> birthday this week and has been busy celebrating the occasion with family and residents at her retirement development.<\/span><\/p>\n

Margaret has been living at FirstPort\u2019s independent-living retirement development Penny Court in Tamworth since 2007. She explained: <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI have had a marvellous time celebrating with my family and residents of Penny Court who have worked so hard to give me a super birthday, including organising the catering themselves.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

While her 100<\/span>th<\/span> birthday will be a memorable one, Margaret said her best birthday memory was the birth of her daughter.<\/span><\/p>\n

She added: <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe best birthday present I have had in my 100 years has been the birth of my daughter in 1946 during the week of my birthday.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe nurse brought me a pile of cards and said that \u2018one would think it is your birthday\u2019 and I explained that it was!\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Margaret said her top advice in life is to \u201calways have a sense of humour\u201d, adding that there is no real secret to reaching 100-years-old.<\/span><\/p>\n

She said: <\/span><\/p>\n

I think it\u2019s best to accept life as it is, as I think life is already planned from when we are born.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think there\u2019s a secret to reaching 100 \u2013 it is just pure luck and the Good Lord watching over me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

It\u2019s not just her birthdays that have been particularly memorable over the years, one of Margaret\u2019s best memories is her \u201chilarious\u201d wedding day to her husband John in 1944.<\/span><\/p>\n

She explained: <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cJohn was fifteen minutes late, it being wartime, anything could happen, and it did.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was hilarious \u2013 the wedding car for John and Tom, the best man, went to the wrong address so they both had to run for the bus to take them into Birmingham from the suburbs to the register office.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThey arrived, hot and bothered, at 11.15. It closed at 12.00pm! Just made it.\u00a0 A good start.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Margaret\u2019s daughter Barbara Hemmings said: <\/span><\/p>\n

I feel blessed to still have my mother with me when I am in my late seventies.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cI hope her birthday will be a very happy occasion.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
