Edgware residents and community groups came together to support a local initiative, grabbing their shovels to help plant a range of fruit trees at a residential development.<\/span><\/p>\n

Stonegrove Community Trust works with residents and other community groups to engage local people in activities, both through the OneStonegrove community hub and, and throughout the local area.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Trust was recently joined by colleagues from FirstPort, which manages the residential development, Edgware Green, Evolution – as well as representatives from The Orchard Project, local residents, volunteers from Barnet Football Club\u2019s Walking Football Group and even young volunteers from a local nursery, to plant the new additions to an unused open space outside of residents\u2019 homes.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Over 30 volunteers took part in the planting day, learning from the expertise of the organisers, whilst planting the trees, which will allow fresh produce to grow throughout the coming months. Seven different variations of fruit trees were planted, and each type will be fruiting at different times throughout the growing season.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gary Horton, Buildings Manager at FirstPort commented:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a great day, doing something proactive, and meeting people from around the development and the local area. It\u2019s nice to get people involved in planting the trees, and It\u2019ll be nice to watch them grow and see how they develop.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a lovely atmosphere with all ages joining in, we hope these trees will bear fruit for many years to come and provide delicious fruit for the community to use. A special thanks to the Orchard Project for helping to fund the project.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have already started putting together a plan for how we\u2019ll care for all the trees and fruit bushes throughout the year.
