Last week, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government released its consultation, ‘Strengthening leaseholder protections over charges and services’. The FirstPort Group welcomes the recently announced consultation, and we look forward to continuing to engage in this process.
Our Managing Director, Martin King, comments: “Professional managing agents will play a critical role in supporting both government and customers as reforms take shape. This consultation offers a valuable opportunity to share insights, especially what we’ve learned from recent engagement with residents and MPs. We remain committed to playing our part in driving positive change across the sector.
“FirstPort is built around people and their homes, and we’re reviewing our own practices and advocating industry-wide improvements in transparency to build greater trust with customers. We have long supported the recommendations of the Regulation of Property Agents Working Group (ROPA), chaired by Lord Best, and we’re pleased to see them being revisited. We believe that a clearer regulatory framework will support higher standards in property management, while giving residents greater confidence in the individuals and businesses looking after their homes.
“We are already on the journey of ensuring our colleagues are qualified to meet the coming regulations, recognising the importance of having a skilled, knowledgeable, and accredited workforce to navigate our increasingly complex industry.
“We look forward to working with the government to drive greater confidence in our industry and ensure it is in the best shape to support residents both now and in the future.”
